2024 has been a momentous year for MHA celebrating the 25 years in practice.
Over the years we have completed a diverse range of projects - new homes and baches, specialist medical facilities, aged care facilities, schools, kindergartens, sporting facilities, community spaces, a cafe, commercial and retail fit-outs, a Performing Arts Centre and numerous additions, alterations and remediations to buildings large and small. Our work has received a number of NZIA awards over the years. We value this recognition from our peers, but the most meaningful outcome is a happy client. A large percentage of our work comes either from repeat clients, or by word-of-mouth recommendations.
Founded by Callum McKenzie and Mark Higham in 1999 as a practice of 4 people - today we are a thriving practice of 29 avid design professionals. Callum has led the practice since its inception and built our strong presence in the education sector. Mark McMillan became a Principal in 2017, he too brings his talents to education projects and oversees our IT and BIM environments. John MacDonald joined MHA in 2018 and became a Principal in 2023, he very ably leads our healthcare sector. Mark Higham, a founding Principal of the practice, stepped back from this role in 2019 but continues to play a significant role as a senior architect in our residential work. Our leadership team now includes Senior Associates Emma Alcock, Chris Evans, Mark Ansell, Rex Bultitude and Dipak Patel, all long serving, highly experienced and talented project architects.
Our success has in large part been driven by our focus on nurturing talent. Associates Ashton Dooley, Bridget Lissaman, Claire Saldanha, Caryl Wilson and Jacob Rhodes-Robinson bring a fresh perspective to the team alongside significant personal skillsets. Our graduates receive supportive mentorship towards registration, and have had a high success rate in obtaining this significant career milestone. Their success reflects our collaborative and supportive practice culture. Over the last few years we have significantly broadened the staff ownership of the practice.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone we have worked with over the last 25 years - all the varied clients who have entrusted us with their architectural aspirations, and the consultants and contractors who have collaborated with us on numerous successful projects. And, of course, all of our dedicated staff, current and past, who have been part of the MHA team over the years.
