Construction is well underway on a new 'forever' home with feature bow windows, in the Wellington suburb of Brooklyn.
Our client approached us to design their dream house - a new home that they could grow old in. Inspired by elegant double storey Victorian houses with feature bow windows - the three tall windows over both storeys accentuate the proportions of the house, fill the interior with light and showcase city views.
Many passive house design principles have been incorporated into the design. An independent energy modelling report provided suggestions on how we could further improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort. The house includes a heat recovery mechanical ventilation system, an air-tightness layer to remove draughts, enhanced insultation to maximise performance and double glazed timber windows to minimise thermal loss.
Our client's lively personality is reflected in the strong motif of the curved windows at the front, side and back of the house and in the striking exterior colour scheme.
