Mark Higham - A Stellar Career

Farewell Mark!  After 26 years, having co-founded MHA with Callum in 1999, Mark is packing up his drawing board and heading off on new adventures.

Mark has played a huge role in shaping MHA: initially as a Principal and from 2019, as a Senior Architect—influencing the quality of our work, the way we practice, and our collaborative team culture.

His projects are thoughtful, refined, and responsive to their environments. His extensive residential portfolio spans new builds, alterations, tiny houses and multi-unit housing. He also completed a number of medical centres and his work on the Wellington Free Ambulance Porirua Station earned MHA’s first NZIA award in 2004.

Mark was a long-time Homestar practitioner with strong interest in designing healthy, efficient, sustainable homes. More recently he was a member of the Wellington City Council Environmental Reference Group, advising on improving Wellingtonians’ quality of life through environmental initiatives.

Mark’s real passion was the alteration of villas and bungalows, delivered with great care and precision and resulting in many happy clients: “The enjoyment hasn’t worn off yet—I still walk into rooms and smile.” (Client, 2026)

A meticulous architect and generous mentor, Mark supported many of our graduates throughout their careers. His experience and steady influence have helped shape the MHA team and its work over more than two decades.

Congratulations Mark on an outstanding career—we will miss you and wish you all the best for your years ahead.
