Onslow College Dawn Blessing for Pipinui & Ngutu Kākā

The beginning of Term 3 marked another significant milestone in Onslow College's redevelopment journey.

The dawn blessing for the College's two newest MHA designed facilities: Pipinui, the new sports and health hub, and Ngutu Kākā, the remodelled and altered wharekai and staff amenities building, took place on a beautiful, still winter morning.

Located above the main campus alongside the new turf and sports fields, Pipinui connects the College's physical education and health learning to its elevated sports fields above and to the south of the campus. The facility includes teaching spaces, staff and student toilets, showers, and changing rooms. Designed with flexibility in mind the facilities can be securely separated from the teaching areas allowing visiting sports teams to use the building independently during weekends and for school events. This encourages wider community engagement with the school while strengthening connections with mana whenua.

A new staircase addresses long-standing access challenges and creates a more direct connection between Pipinui and the lower campus. It also allowed essential infrastructure upgrades to be integrated with the path design. The ceremony included the blessing of the remodelled Ngutu Kākā. Situated adjacent to the college wharenui, it houses the upgraded staffroom and wharekai. These two new additions proudly reflect our commitment to Onslow College and the strong relationship we have built through the school's many projects over the past two decades.
