Paparahi – 50th Anniversary Faculty of Architecture & Design VUW

This October marks Paparahi – the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. MHA are proud to be a sponsor of this event celebrating the significant role that the facility has made to New Zealand architecture and design. Not only are we physically just 150 metres from the Victoria University of Wellington School of Architecture but there are many VUW alumni in our team.

The theme of the anniversary is its gifted name Paparahi, which means foundation, footprint or a track. Papa represents the layers of learning and creative practice that have been built up over time, resulting in rahi, which references our great store of knowledge and the significance of our collective work.  Over this Labour Weekend (24-26 October 2025) events will include an informal drinks and canapés occasion on the Friday night, a welcome pōwhiri on Saturday morning, a symposium featuring renowned alumni, an exhibition, student showcase, and a gala dinner at the Tākina Wellington Conference and Exhibition Centre.  We look forward to celebrating VUW’s five decades of teaching and research in architecture and design and connecting with Wellington’s architectural community.
