Extending an existing award-winning dwelling for clients with a strong design pedigree ensured a vigorous and rewarding design process. The result was a simple elegant structure.
Our clients wanted to add a relaxed casual family space to their home. The existing house was carefully crafted and private, oriented towards an internal courtyard. We added a garden pavilion that established the missing transition between indoors and the surrounding rural landscape.
The addition of the new structure formed new outdoor spaces orientated to create shelter from the prevailing winds, essential in an exposed site like this. We also refurbished the adjoining kitchen and dining areas; updating materials to create a simple contemporary feel.
The new pavilion has enhanced an already great design. Its light filled spaces create a strong sense of connection with the landscape. “It has great lines” the client commented; this open, simple form provides the perfect vehicle for their extensive art and design collection as well as for their own creative endeavours.
