Churton Park School Redevelopment

Work is nearing completion on the McKenzie Higham Architects' redevelopment of Churton Park School.

The campus is made up of a variety of buildings of different shapes and forms, many of which were approaching the end of their useful life and required significant repairs and improvement. The MHA team is led by Chris Evans and was engaged to undertake a mix of recladding, retrofitting, refurbishing and extending existing buildings as well as adding a new building modelled on a Ministry of Education reference design previously developed by McKenzie Higham.

This is a complex project that posed a significant design challenge to visually link and unify buildings across the site. The design team at MHA created a sense of cohesion across the campus with a tessellated colour scheme on the panels of both the new and existing buildings. The fresh colour palette combines shades of green with hints of yellow and pale blue and a dark grey backdrop to seamlessly accommodate the various forms.

As work nears completion on site, the result is taking form; a unified community of buildings presenting a coherent school environment.
